I am not sure how many of you have heard of the website 100daysofrealfood.com, but I have been reading and debating and feeling overwhelmed and then excited...but I am taking the plunge. I am hoping it will make a huge difference in Titus, and I think it could really help me with my thyroid. It is scary all the junk that is in food that is deemed "edible"!!!! Here is an article that explains a lot, too: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-mark-hyman/5-steps-to-kill-hidden-ba_b_739213.html
DAY 1: Went to Meijer because they have a lot more options for real and organic food. Spent an hour and a half, feeling somewhat overwhelmed and had to constantly talk to myself to say that it will get better and to remind myself why I am doing this. Feeling incredibly grateful for the website's meal plan with recipes and a complete list of everything I need to buy for the week. About had a heart attack at the register...eating well does not come cheap. Yikes. But I can't put a price tag on our health.
Meal #1 was a huge success. It took less than 15 minutes and Stephen said "If all the meals taste this good, I won't have a problem doing this." Yay!!!
DAY 2: Power goes out sometime in the middle of the night and doesn't come back on until after 9 pm. I was worried that I lost all my food I had just bought, but Consumer's Energy said that food will be fine for 24 hours if we keep everything closed. Whew! But it still ruined my meal plans since we couldn't cook anything :( We just had PBJ (all natural, plus on homemade bread!)
DAY 3: It was a little stressful getting it done in time since we had to leave before 6 for Titus's game and I didn't get home until after 4:30, but we did it! Stephen loved the Jambalaya that I made! In his words, "I am a huge, huge, HUGE fan!" Success.
DAY 4: Baking and cooking ALL DAY. Stephen did three loads of dishes (in my defense, there were probably 1.5 loads before I started ;) ). I am TIRED. But I have more homemade bread and it turned out a lot better than Wednesday, I made granola cereal that is awesome, egg salad for lunch, homemade wheat tortillas for dinner tonight, and homemade smoothies. I was not a big fan of the smoothies, but that is because I had to use oranges instead of blueberries or my mixed fruit, because I accidentally left them in my freezer at work :( I was really frustrated with myself!
The fajitas that I made for dinner were really good! Unfortunately the kids did not like it, which I was worried about it. So not sure I should try this again for a while - maybe down the road after the kids get more used to eating like this :) :)
DAY 5: Yesterday and today I have felt so sick to my stomach and have had a huge headache. I don't know if I am fighting the flu bug Stephen and Damaris had earlier, or if it is my body going through withdraw from sugar :) I wonder this because I have in the past given up sugar for a while, and I did get really bad headaches. Still staying the course!
DAY 6: I had to pack lunch and dinner and snacks for today, and breakfast, lunch and snacks for the next day for Titus, Damaris, and myself. The reason is because we headed early Sunday morning after breakfast to my niece's graduation in Indianapolis, and I knew it would be too hard to find whole/real food while traveling. So even though it was a lot of work ahead of time, it makes it easy to be out of town without stressing what to eat in order to stick to my 100 days.

We are working toward this too, but it is so hard and not always convenient. I am going to check out the site, please share your favorite recipes!
So much work, but a healthier choice for your family.
Just know that it is OK if, in an emergency, you have to go off plan. It's not a complete waste of your previous days.
Having said that - way to go for planning ahead!
Keep of up the great work, Michelle (and family)! I hope you are feeling better by now as your body adjusts to this new way of eating.
