I have been MIA for a little while now...Thanksgiving was good (post coming soon!), but went fast, and now all of a sudden it is time for Christmas in less than two weeks...yikes!
The first week after Thanksgiving was spent sewing...a LOT of sewing...like 45 hours of sewing. What was I sewing? 8 angel costumes, 3 shepherd costumes, 3 wise men costumes, and Mary and Joseph costumes. Our church had a live nativity this year for the first time ever, and Stephen picked up the fabric that Monday, with our first showing that Saturday...yikes!!!!!!!!!!! So I had to call in some backup...my mom. We sat and sewed for 15 hours for 3 days in a row. My dad helped cut out the fabric, which was a HUGE help! We didn't have any patterns, so we made it up as we went, and I know how to use my sewing machine...but it ends there...so needless to say, it was an interesting 45 hours, which for people who are good at sewing probably would have been done in half the time. I know this because another lady from the church helped us Friday morning, and in the few short hours she was there, she had three costumes done and I was barely done with one. :)
I was sewing even more on Saturday, and when I got to the church at 5, I put everyone who walked in the door, to work :) A couple were cutting out the head coverings, a couple were pinning hems so that I could just sew, etc. It was a blessing, and allowed me to get just enough done to rush everyone out the door 10 minutes before the first show...cutting it a bit close, I know!
I spent more time this past week doing a lot more finish work since we had another showing this past weekend...but ended up just going with it, because I just ran out of time. A girl (who is not a seamstress!) can only do so much! :) But, the only thing left is putting Velcro on the backs, so I would say that is not that bad!!!
Here are some pictures...with everyone bundled up underneath their costumes to stand out in the cold for two hours!
Our angels
Wise men
Our shepherds
Mary and Joseph
We had some rambunctious goats that kept trying to eat Mary and bite the shepherds and wise men when they were neeling down :)
And an adorable fuzzy baby cow!
They look so innocent... :)
We added Kevin's daughter into the mix on the last showing to make a 4th wise man :) :) :)
It was a great two weekends, and we definitely want to do this again next year!
