Pronunciation

As I have made mention of in a previous post, names are important to me - hence the whole Stephen vs Steve issue which I raised last time (he prefers Stephen by the way :)).

We have already passed along a difficult (OK, impossible to pronounce unless you have heard it first) last name to our kids, and I have realized that what I thought was a unique, but basic, name for Damaris is really not as easy to pronounce as I thought. So now she is going to have every bit of her name slaughtered, except her middle (Rebekah), which is rarely used anyway :) Oh well, I still like the name we have chosen for her...and I HATE nicknames for our kids, so Damaris it is, even if it is not pronounced right. :)

For those of you that are still wondering how exactly to say it, it is "duh-MARE-iss".

Oh, and by the way, in case you were wondering about our last name, it is "moyt". Nothing like it is spelled, but that is how it is pronounced :) I am never offended by those who ask how to pronounce our name(s) if you are not sure...I feel it is better to ask and feel embarrassed than slaughter it :)

Hope you all have a great weekend...it is homecoming for IWU and we are looking forward to seeing lots of friends!! I will be sure to post pictures next week.

Have I ever mentioned in blogland that after our SON Elisha was born, when we went to the doctor's office the nurses would call him "eh-LISH-uh" like a girl's name. I was freaking out and actually considered officially changing his name. But we decided that we like his name (plus, changing a name apparently costs a significant amount of cash), so we left it as is.

Michelle! I forgot to tell you that last Visit Day, I met with a mom whose name was DAMARIS. I told her a friend of mine had just named her daughter Damaris and she grinned. She said the only advice she had was to always correct mispronunciations of it! She LOVES the uniqueness of her name and prays the same for your daughter! I totally forgot to tell you this until I saw your blog!!!!
