Children's Museum

Four times a year the museums in Grand Rapids have free days!  So several months ago we made plans with our friends Jonathan and Amanda to meet up and take our kids to the GR Children's Museum.

Stephen was sick, so I ended up taking the kids by myself.  It was a lot of fun and the kids had a blast, although I don't know that I would call it a museum - more like a two story play house.  But they had a lot of neat things, and although it was absolutely CRAZY and PACKED in there (the building was at capacity, so we had to wait outside for people to leave just to get in), the kids got to most everything in the few hours we were there.

Here are some pictures...there are a LOT. :)

He was so proud of his tower...

And then kept on building!

They had a kitchen/restaurant area where kids could pretend to make food

And a bank, complete with tubes and money, and everything!

They also had an area where kids could dress up...

...and even go on stage and "perform"

Sand is always a big hit!

They also had a farm area that was really cute

Damaris wanted a picture with the scarecrow :)

Bubbles were also huge.  They had an area where you could pull a rope and bring up a huge bubble that surrounded you, but the line was huge, so we never got to that.

This was pretty cool too...a huge "Lite Brite" :)

A place to build things with metal using a strong magnet in the middle.

This was pretty cool.  You could get things to spin pretty good on this spinning wheel.

They had a bee section where there really was a bee hive that you could watch because it was in a container like an ant farm only huge.  There was a tube for the bees to go in and out into the outdoors and everything, and you could even see the queen bee.  It was pretty fascinating!

A large section to pretend you were a dentist :)

There was a tree house in the middle that was pretty cool.

I thought this was cool and a lot of fun!

Making shapes...

A place where kids could do a puppet show

The store was a HUGE hit for Damaris.  I think she could have played here all day :)

She FINALLY got a cart...they were pretty hot commodities, but this was toward the end of the day when there weren't as many people there.

This was just a funny picture on the way home.  We were snacking on yogurt covered pretzels, and somehow Titus got it under his eye!  It was pretty funny.

We had a great time, and sometime I would like to go again when they are not as busy!  We had a great time with Jonathan and Amanda too, and I was glad to have their help at trying to keep track of my two kids that wanted to do different things and be at different areas in the building!
