A Visit With My Grandpa & Other Random Pictures

My grandpa is now in a nursing home (brain scan showed low functioning so Mary Free Bed couldn't keep him), but while he was in MFB I took the kids down to Grand Rapids to see him (Sunday, June 1st). It was great seeing him, and I love this picture, but this really doesn't look like my grandpa. My grandpa was always confident, and sure of himself, and carried himself that way. He was able to say a couple phrases, his main one being "no way" :) But he does know his name. If he fell asleep, just by saying "Peter" he would immediately open his eyes and look at you. He can swallow and take drinks which is good, and eat food. He knew when he didn't want more water, too. I asked him if he wanted more, and he shut his lips and shook his head.  It is so super sad, but I feel like I have had closure to the whole thing, and that I have dealt with the loss of my grandpa.  I know he is still here, but it is not the same - so I have grieved the loss of my grandpa as he was.  If this is making any sense...

On another note...here are two random pictures I took that night when I got home:

Your grandpa are really blessed to see his great grand children grow up. I understand what you mean in a way. Both my grandpa passed away before I was born so I never get to experience them.

I'm sure somehow, your grandpa will still feel the love from his family members.

You are all truly blessed!
