Vacation Part 3...What We Did

On the first day we just lounged around our resort because we were so exhausted from traveling.  It worked out perfect because it rained most of the day anyway!

On the second day we went to a nearby town to pick up some things we forgot and to just see the town.  They had a historical downtown, so we went to a park, had lunch and then walk around downtown.

This chair looked uncomfortable, but it was cool!

On our third day we went to some caverns and drove through some of the National Park in the mountains.

Pictures never do it justice, but I will try :)  The caverns were really cool!!!

Bacon formations.
This exact formation is actually featured in National Geographic because it is the best bacon formation in the US and possibly the world!  They were huge...I wish there was a way to get perspective...

This is where water dripped onto the floor.  I thought it looked so cool!

This stalactite is sooooo close to touching the stalagmite, but the lady said it still will be another 15-20 years before it actually connects because it takes so long for columns to form!

It looks like a castle!

This reflection pool was pretty cool!

They call this one the capital dome

With our ticket to see the caverns, we also were able to tour their parade float museum.  The owner of the cavern has done a LOT - for big, well-known parades, too!  They were huge!  Some of them were pretty neat to see.  Here are some pictures...

Do you see the kids?  It really shows you how big it really is!

This one was cool, too.  Can you even see Damaris????

Next we went on the scenic road for the Shenandoah National Park.  It was beautiful!!

We did a short trail so we could hike to a waterfall.  That was pretty, too!

The mountain behind us...I actually too a picture of the side mirror, but I thought it still turned out great!

On our fourth in Virginia, we toured the battlefields in the area.

Wilderness
We also toured Chancellorsville, but a cannon looks like a cannon to me, so I didn't add those pictures in :)

This is in Fredricksburg

This was pretty cool...they would link several of these together on the river that was just down the hill from where this picture was taken, and then it would make a boat so that they could cross!

This was just a cool building across the river that we snapped a picture of.

This was a house that several famous people stayed in.  We stood in the same room that George Washington stayed in!

And that was our vacation...a lot of fun, but waaaaay too short!! :)
