The last weekend in April a group of us headed up to Gaylord for our district women's retreat. Sonja Burpo (the mother of Colton, the boy from Heaven Is For Real) was the speaker, and although she wasn't the best speaker I have ever heard (she admitted she feels called to children's ministry, so I admire her for stepping out and following where God has lead their family!), we still had a great retreat! One thing that Sonja shared that will probably stick with me for life is that "God never wastes a hurt". I thought that was really good!!
Our group went to dinner together Friday night, and had WONDERFUL fellowship after the evening session. Plus I was able to get to know one lady a lot better as we rode to and from the retreat together, and I also got to room with and get to know two other ladies, one of which I had never really met before. I love being able to get to know other people better, in smaller settings!
Here is a picture of all of us Friday night...
Main table: Me, Vera, Abby, Patti, Joann, Elissa, Gina, Cheryl, Sharon W, Connie, Sharon S, Julie, Donna
Side Tables: Sandy and Mel, Violet's friend and Violet
(I am not sure where Doris went...she must have been hiding behind someone! And Cherri was taking the picture)
The kids had their annual carnival at school...I didn't take any pictures, other than this one that the kids insisted on... :)
There has been a "Cold Water Challenge" running rampant on Facebook. It's where you get "tagged" to either jump into freezing water, or pay $100 to a charity of your choice. Well, these three guys were all called out, and so ran into our nearby lake together to get it over with :) I was not there, so the kids are the ones that took these pictures :)
The guys running out of the freezing water (it has been very cold here, so the water was incredibly cold, too!!!). Picture courtesy of Titus :)
Tee ball season is here! Titus was so traumatized by having to be in baseball last year that he didn't want to play this year. I really wish he could have done tee ball last year instead...I think he would have done so much better if he had been able to have that extra year.
Damaris is still in tee ball...she is probably the oldest one in the league since her birthday is literally days away from the cut off, but that is OK with me. She is getting a lot more confidence, and hits the ball every time - usually on the first pitch! She still has a lot to learn, but it is crazy how much she improves from year to year, especially since we don't really play much otherwise.
Here is a video of Damaris hitting the ball - she has a pretty good swing, I think!!
Up to bat
This has been a couple of hard months...mainly because of my thyroid, I think. The medicine I am on is thankfully working, but with my thyroid in the low end of normal, I have been having a lot of hypothyroid (under-active) symptoms, which are just as annoying (if not more) than when I was dealing with hyperthyroidism and my Graves Disease. I have been tired, unmotivated to do anything, depressed, dealing with anxiety, cold all the time, and hair loss (good thing I had a lot of hair to begin with!). This does not make for a good combination in a dreary, colder than normal and snowier than normal, winter. I am almost done, though, and then I am praying my body settles into a normal range so that my Graves Disease can stay in remission. Thankfully I am at the finish line!!! All that to say, life has been busy lately...at home and at church...and I haven't been dealing with it very well. Just being honest. Some days I can pull myself together and keep fighting forward, but other days are just hard and I am a mess.
In other news, Titus has been losing teeth like crazy lately...I guess he is making up for lost time since he was a bit late losing teeth in the first place :) He is still so excited every time he loses one :) School has been a lot better this year...maybe a combination of him maturing a little bit, and a a teacher that holds him to the line and doesn't let him get away with much ;) Honestly, we have been so blessed with teachers at our school...they have all been great, and have really worked with us and with him.
Damaris is getting a lot better at reading...it is fun to see her figure out what things say. She thinks it is pretty cool, too :) She is of course in tee ball and having fun with that. Her friend Kenidee is on her team, which she loves. Not too much else going on with her...she is a pretty easy going kid :)
So that's it from us for now... :)
