Farewell to My Sister

My younger sister, Kara, is going to Cambodia for 11 months, and this past weekend we went to spend time with her and to go to the farewell party that my parent's were having before she left (yesterday actually).

Here are some pictures of our time with the family...

Titus and Damaris reading with Grandpa and Grandma

My sister and I had to laugh - because we can't remember a time when our dad ever read to us...but how can you say 'no' to a sweetie like Damaris?!? :) :)

Here is a cute little video of Damaris "reading" a book :) :)

And while the kids were entertained or sleeping we played Settlers of Catan, and thanks to David and Dena coming and teaching us (see post below) we taught her a couple new variations as well, which was fun.

This is Kara's face saying "I am so sick of winning! Can't Stephen and Michelle not stink so much?!?" :) :) (she did win all three games we played :) :) )

At the party Titus found a new friend - my cousin's son :) He is already looking forward to camping in May so he can see him and play with him again :)

My mom always made us cakes for our birthdays growing up so Kara requested a cake for her farewell party. It looks almost exactly like a card my sister brought back from Cambodia when she was there in June.

I will miss her tons, but I am SO excited for this opportunity in her life! She is going with World Hope and will be working with the girls and the staff that works with the girls that are rescued from Human Trafficking. She has her Master's Degree is Marriage and Family Therapy, so she will be doing counseling, staff development, and also working with leading teams that come over. I hope to go over and visit her in August or September, and even though I have quite a bit of money saved up already, I still have a ways to go - and with no job, that puts a kink in my original plans. But God knows better than I do, so I will do my part and trust Him with the rest!

Wow, that's a neat trip that Kara will take and I'm sure she'll help so many people, what a tough thing for those poor girls to go through! Love the pretty cake - and hopefully you can go this fall! My little sis is in the Philippines for 18 months, so they'll sort of be neigbors :)
