Part 1 = Parade
We were told when we interviewed at the church that the 4th of July was one time of the year we could not take off. It is one of our biggest outreach events of the year. So July 3rd we had a family fun day of sorts to label the water bottles we hand out (our church is known for this!), make the float, and just have a good time together.
Titus found something...
...a pretty big toad!
Tara is so creative and artistic...
Cornelius and his two daughters made this cool eagle!
Damaris guessed how many tootsie rolls were in the container - only 60 off. Of course it was sheer luck. Her first answer when asked how many was "a lot". True, but not a number :) Then she said four... :) :) Finally I asked her how many hundred she wanted to guess...and we landed at 700, and there were 760. She was pretty excited :)
Almost done!
(in case you are wondering, it is a waterfall with an eagle on top...it was pretty cool! We just didn't have the water turned on for this picture)
After the float was done, there was a picnic at the houses where two families from our church live. Since they live right next to each other, there was lots of room!
The next day (on the 4th) we had a combined church service and then a lady made food for all of us that were in the float! It was yummy, and so nice she did that. Then we headed to the race track to line up and start the float by 1 PM.
Ready and waiting...
Brent has his own chip route, so he passed out chips.
I actually drove the float, which was not what I was expecting to do...but it was just easier for the kids to ride in the truck and me not have to worry about them...and I was thankful that it was not as nerve racking as it had the potential of being!
Taking the float apart - Titus really wanted a picture with the eagle :)
I was surprised that we made it all the way around the lake and back to the race track in an hour and a half! It was probably 6 miles, but I didn't feel like we were going THAT fast. Maybe because I was the one driving and not running around handing out bottled water and trying to keep up with the float :) :)
