Beef...it's what's for dinner...

Stephen found baby calves on Craig's List for only $50...normally they are a couple hundred!  So that got him thinking about buying one to raise for beef...so yes, as of last week Wednesday, we now have cows LOL
Picking up the calves

Our friends are splitting the cost with us, and so we picked up two so we each can have one butchered out in two years.  Our kids are horrified at the thought...but who can blame them when calves are so cute?!?  It will be a lot easier to think of them as beef when they are full grown and not so adorable :)

We joked around with names for them...like calling one Ham and one Burger...but then talked a little more serious and couldn't decide between Rufus or Clifford, so we named ours Ruford and our friends named theirs Ferdinand...I know, I know...you should never name your food.  :)

 Here is Ferdinand

He has been very difficult to feed...but I think after 4 days of being persistent and making some changes to their bottles, he FINALLY is eating better.  It was a 45 minute ordeal before :(

Abby feeding Ruford...at first he did not get it at all...he is a bit smaller than Ferdinand, so probably a little younger, and I don't know that he was as bottle ready as what the farmer said...but once he caught on to using a bottle, he has been a champ and eats great!

Isn't he cute?!?

Ferdinand is 60 pounds and Ruford is 50 pounds...so almost half the size of our dog, even though they are about the same height.  We need them to start packing on the pounds so we get lots of beef  :) :)
