Riding a bike has been a huge ordeal at our house...which kind of threw me, because what kid doesn't want to ride a bike, and how did I get TWO kids that didn't want to learn??? We tried a few times over the years, and they just really had a hard time and were very emotional about it. But at this point, with Titus almost 10 and Damaris 8, they are too big for the biggest bike we have, but we told them we couldn't get another bike until they learned because they don't put training wheels on bikes that big.
Over the last couple weeks I have been talking it up and telling them that it really is easy once you learn - that it's kind of like walking, where it seems hard at first, but once you get it, you don't even think about it...you just do it. Well, I think that helped them some, and then last Wednesday I told the kids that if they learned, we could go right after and pick out a bike.
Damaris tried, but was just too worked up about it...so we will have to try again soon. Titus learned in less than 10 minutes...he did a really good job, and was so proud of himself! He was even able to start from a complete stop all on his own by the end. I was so excited for him!! (and, if I am honest...I was excited for myself...as stupid as this sounds, I kind of felt like a "parent failure" not having either child know how to ride a bike, and I was determined Titus was going to learn before he turned 10!)
There he goes!!
Poor thing...this bike was so small for him...and very girly ;)
I will have to post pictures of him and his new bike!
Damaris was still able to tag along for the ride :)
So proud!
