New Dog!

Some of you may have seen my post on Facebook about Daisy, a 9 month old chocolate lab that we just adopted from Montcalm County Animal Control on Monday...but I wanted to document a few more details on our blog so we have them later!

Daisy...with her super long tongue :)

Montcalm County Animal Control recently received a grant for $10,000 to offer free adoptions, but it doesn't start until October 3rd.  We were curious what kinds of dogs they had, and we were surprised that there was a chocolate lab!  We sometimes visit pet stores and other places to love on the dogs, mainly because we miss Eva so much, but just weren't ready to do the puppy thing again...or I should say that I wasn't ready :)

Anyway, even though the grant isn't in effect yet, we decided to go visit her last Friday, but didn't tell the kids we were interested.  She is a lighter color than Eva, and quite a bit smaller, but still looks very similar since they are both the same breed.

She wasn't up for adoption until this past Monday (they try to find the owners if they can), so even though we really liked her, there was nothing we could do at that point.  With her being chocolate lab, we knew there would probably be several people interested, and so we weren't surprised that there were 3 families there waiting to adopt her when they opened on Monday.  To make it fair, they put our names in a container and pulled my name out, so we got to adopt her!!!

We weren't able to take her home with us, because she has to go to the vet for shots, heart worm medicine, and to get fixed, but it actually worked out really nice because it gave us time to get stuff around and ready for her to come home.

She is already house trained, which is a HUGE stress reliever for me, and she is pretty decent on a leash, which helps for walks.  She also does really well running next to you with the leash, so that was cool, too.  She is very lovable and snuggly which is fun...she just seems super sweet.  I really think she will fit nicely into our family!

We are all very excited to be able to go pick her up TOMORROW!!!
